The following testing was done in the summer of 2006 on the entire Lima Stadium by the LJB Group: Subsoil investigation, Concrete core testing, Petrographic analysis and Low impact sounding. Results for the East Grandstands were as follows: Very little sound concrete remained (approximately 75% of concrete in seating area had subsurface voids), Foundations were undersized and supported on unreliable fill, Restoration would require demolition and reconstruction of well over half of the structure, Replacement was recommended and Potential shutdown required in the spring due to advanced deterioration.
Plans to replace the East Grandstand include a state-of-the-art steel structure that will seat 2,700; ample concession stands; restrooms; handicapped seating with a wider concourse below; and a brick facade replicateing the deco style of the West Grandstand. The picture on the top right side is a mock up of what the East Grandstand will look at.
